Automotive - Hydraulic Lifter Body
(see .PDF image here)
The hydraulic lifter body was originally a very complex part. It required secondary operations including boring, laser welding, grinding, and ironing. Quality issues arose due to the amount of variation possible between the numerous secondary processes.
Our team redesigned the part as a single operation, eliminating all secondary operations. We used a reverse draw technique to create the internal baffle component. The redesign provided a substantial cost savings to the customer due to the simplification of production.
