The original component for this lock system utilized a powdered metal component. This component was expensive and prone to intermittent fractures due to the brittle nature of a powdered metal product. We created two progressive die components using a simplified mechanism. Increased ductility allowed a highly desirable snap test improvement. The new design also simplified the housing by removing the side pierces. This design improved performance in product life, dependability in the field, and yielded a 40% cost reduction.
