Frequently Asked Questions

At Trans-Matic, we are committed to helping our customers design and create reliable, high-performance components using state-of-the-art metal stamping technology. Our dedicated team of toolmakers, engineers, designers, and support personnel work tirelessly to ensure that our customers have everything they need for a successful project. To help you determine how we can best assist you with your next project or ongoing manufacturing process, we have compiled a list of our customers’ most frequently asked questions below.

What is deep drawn stamping?

Deep drawn stamping is a cold metal forming process in which a blank or sheet of metal is forced into a pre-cut die to create a shape that is deeper than its diameter. It is used to make a range of hollow shapes, from cylinders and rectangular boxes to spheres. Deep drawn stamping requires the use of compressive force applied by a press or hammer, which causes the blank to take on the form of the die. The resultant component is strong and durable, with highly accurate dimensions.

What is a transfer press?

A transfer press is a type of stamping press that is typically used for highly efficient deep drawn stamping. Rather than compressing the metal into one die, a transfer press moves the blank through a series of dies, each of which has a slightly different shape to create a more complex component. This allows manufacturers to create multiple components in sequence, for extremely accurate and repeatable shapes in a short period of time.

Do you design and build your own tools?

Trans-Matic provides complete in-house tooling design, prototyping, and production manufacturing. Using cutting-edge design and fabrication technology, we can quickly and efficiently produce everything from prototypes and samples to durable tooling for full-scale production.

What is a common lead time for production tooling?

At Trans-Matic, we pride ourselves on providing short lead times and quick turnarounds. Depending on the complexity of your project, our lead time typically averages 18-20 weeks. Smaller production runs and simpler tools can usually be turned around within about 16 weeks, and prototypes can often be manufactured even more quickly.

What tolerances can you typically hold?

Trans-Matic provides quality deep drawn components within extremely tight tolerances. While the exact tolerance differs based on the component’s size and geometry, we can produce small IDs within +/-0.025mm (+/-0.001) at capability.

What certificates have you obtained?

Trans-Matic is committed to producing only the highest quality components to meet and exceed industry standards and customer specifications. To ensure superior quality and service, we maintain three detailed internal policies: Environmental, Safety, and Conflict Minerals. In addition, all of our facilities are IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 certified to ensure optimal quality control.
